Can I just reiterate my comment from 25/2/2003 that I like John Mayer??
Actually scratch that.
I looooooooove John Mayer and have a huge crush on him!
Hahahaaa. So I skipped my teeny-bopper-I-have-a-crush-on-JTT stage (omg, remember him!?!?! Hahahahahahahahahaa. You should be so embarrased...you know who you are...there's more than one of you!!! hehe). So I'm living it now when I've just turned 21. SO SUE ME!
Aside from the lead up (which I will address later), I had a great time! John Mayer himself just had this easy charm about him which was very attractive (hee), and compelling in its way. His stage presence wasn't that great (it looked to me like the show would have suited a more intimate venue- like, I can envisage him playing a small smoky jazz club, rather than in a sizeable venue with a huge screaming throng), but he and the band looked like they were having such a good time...it was just fun to watch.
SOME bits were a little laboured though (his so called "25 minute version of Come Back to Bed)...kinda like he forgot he was supposed to be entertaining an audience and went off on his own random walk/jam with the band. Actually, speaking of Come Back to Bed, it was missing the cheesy 7-note trumpet filler in the pre-chorus, and sounded a lot better for it. Hmm. The run went like this:
Clarity
Bigger Than My Body
My Stupid Mouth
83
Wheel
Home Life
No Such Thing
Come Back To Bed
Your Body is a Wonderland
Why Georgia (I love this song! And in the bridge he just left the crowd to sing...and you could hear everyone singing the words, which is no mean feat because it's a very wordy song...cool!)
encore (hehe, I was sitting there willing the audience to keep clapping muttering to myself "Keep clapping, he does encores!!")
Daughters
3x5 (WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY end with 3x5...hrrrrrrr. It's one of my least liked songs on Room for Squares.)
I was disappointed (though not overly) that he didn't play Something's Missing or Back to You (both of which he played in his Brisbane show apparently!), but hey, there's always next time (when there's probably an even lesser chance of them being played. O well!). Next time, I will be in the squashed and screaming throng (which just also happens to be the seat of all atmosphere...not really much up where we were sitting.)
Ok enough gushing (for now!)....
=)
