Bad reputation doesn't bite
A11ens probably has the worst reputation out of all the top tier Aussie law firms. All the bad press I've read about top tier law firms is about A11ens - see here and here.
Regardless, law students are still lining up by the hundred for jobs with them. Myself included.
What a sell out.
The fact of the matter is that there are so few jobs going compared to candidates out there, that law students will do virtually anything to get one of those coveted jobs in a big name firm.
What was "virtually anything" for me? Anything which doesn't require personal humilitation, sleeping with anyone, or working in insolvency.
Unfortunately there were no takers. Maybe I should have said I wanted to work in insolvency!

I TOTALLY understand what you are saying! I'll do pretty much anything too!
Funny thing is, my friend who works as an insolvency accountant is always trying to refer me to an insolvency job. She says that it's so much easier after to go into insolvency law. Hmmmm....
