My Big Weekend
Hello everyone! Just coming off a great weekend and I thought I should share the joy with y'all.
Thursday was the conclusion of my excruciating ALR assignment, which officially concluded all my midsession assessments (I know, a bit late at week 11! Would have been over heaps earlier if not for those extensions...mixed blessings those!), so I was in the mood to kick back!
My new soprano saxophone!!
On Friday, I went with Mum to pick up my new Soprano Saxophone! I love it! Took me about 5-10 minutes to get a proper note out of it, but once I did I was ecstatic and pottering around the house grinning. I love the sound of the instrument...it's so expressive...just lovely! Today I got a Saxophone tutor book (which will have to do in lieu of a teacher for now), and I thought I was doing ok, until tuning with the CD the book came with revealed that I was playing almost a WHOLE TONE FLAT!! EEK!! It was ok after I tightened up my embouchure (gee I feel techy!!)...but pitch starts to slide when I start getting tired, so hopefully I'll work on it so I can play with other people! I'm loving it at the moment (2 days in!)- fingers crossed that I keep motivated.
(O, ick, Rove's hosting of the ARIAs is falling FLAT...poor Rove. Blame it on the burnt down office.)
Great night out on Friday
Feel slightly bad that I didn't tell anyone that I wasn't gonna be at church on Friday...but I had a brilliant night out with the girls =) First we went for $6 steaks (well I did anyway!) at The Chelsea in Chatty, then we migrated to the city where we spent an hour karaokeing (dragged Roz along against her will, hopefully she didn't think it was a waste of $9!!). Then onwards-ever-onwards to Hemmesphere...I looooove Hemmesphere! It's everything I love in a place to grab drinks- ambient, comfy seats, not crowded, not so loud that you can't talk, intimate, and good drinks/food! Ok, so maybe it's a little on the swanky side, but I really liked it! There we sampled the Cocktail of the month, which had lemon vodka, limoncello, pineapple juice, ginger and...wait for it....coriander! Surprisingly though, it worked really well! Then we trotted off to Opera Bar to sample their cocktail of the month which wasn't a patch on the Hemmesphere one- that one was Lychee Liquor with coriander and chilli and some other spirit...bit on the sweet side. I liked the funkiness of the music there, but it was pretty crowded and loud. Finally we headed on back to Chatty for dessert at Cha for Tea. Dessert was sweetened legumes and pulses on ice (much more prosaically titled 'Seven Treasures' or something, hehe), a la ice kachang, before crashing at Roz's for the night. I'm still amazed we did so much in a night, considering that I am more than happy to lounge around at home doing nothing in particular =) Oh and the scrambled eggs I had for breakfast the next morning at Hooligan's (not the real name of the cafe....sounds like it tho!) were lovely too. Yay!
Today was normal...but positive instead of neutral because of the good-preceding-days-halo-effect. =)
So yeah- argh, really need to get back to work in earnest because exams/psycho-assignment-due-dates are imminent. Eeek eek eek!
