Withdrawal

After...almost 11 hours without the net, I logged on joyously when I got home, only to find that there's actually no reason to be on the net. No email (omg, no email for 48 hours!!)...no one online...people haven't updated their blogs...at least someone left a comment for me on my little piece of electronica (much appreciated! =) to which I will gratefully reply.

I don't know if this is a reflection of the zeitgeist, or just me having a particularly sad existence, but having the internet on basically 24-7 for all intents and purposes is sort of comforting because it means I'm generally never more than a few keystrokes or mouse clicks away from a fellow human being. In one sense it's the death of proper communication in favour of the aforementioned keystrokes/mouse clicks (though...what is proper? At one stage of the evolution of communication, the telephone probably wasn't considered "proper" as opposed to face to face communication...but now in relative terms, the telephone has moved up the ranks...hummm), but on the other hand, it means that people are never really far away.

(Can you believe -yes I suppose you can!- that the thought "I wonder if/how this reflects increasing rationalisation in society?"....omg, the thought that JUST went through my head was something like "Well, it reflects growing rationalisation in that we're looking for more convenient methods of communication..."...ARGH! Weber is taking over my life and I'm not even fully immersed in him yet!!!)

Law and Social Theory is getting to me again!!!!
