Ok ok.

Last gushing blog about John Mayer, promise!!

Actually, I retract that promise. I have to gush to SOMEONE and no one outside cyberspace will listen to me (well, except maybe Lockie- we gush together...).

Regardless, I press on!

Lockie gave me the Mayer DVD for my birthday today and I spent a good 1.5 hours watching it today...eeek! Somehow the human condition as it pertains to me must be more universal than I think, because, as I have previously remarked, Mayer seems to be able to express exactly what I think in these beautifully lyrical, poetic songs...

In his commentary on Something's Missing (the lyrics of which I posted here once), he said the song stemmed from times when you think about something that causes negative sentiment...then all at once you forget the thought that caused the icky-ness, but the icky feeling remains, and you can't put your finger on why. Roz, do you remember when we were talking about that??? Can you believe there's a song about it??? He took the words right out of my mouth...then turned them into a great song...no wonder he's selling millions of albums.

I've been writing quite a bit of music lately...(I think it's because I managed to get my hands on a half decent audio mixer to mix tracks with and stuff...compared to what's out there it's incredibly crude, but it works for me, and the program was free!). Some of it's ok. But what annoys me is my lack of originality (everything seems to sound like something else) and the fact that the lyrics don't come out of the depths of me. I can't seem to express what I want to (perhaps that's another reason I like Mayer- cos he can do what I can't!). Only a small handful of songs that I think are half decent come out of my piles and piles of vignettes of lyrics and music. Hrm. If there is a discipline to songwriting (and people [ok fine, I mean Mayer!] claim there is...) I don't think I have it. I don't have the time to sit down and nut out the nuts and bolts of a song. All I can do it work on it in my head while I'm procrastinating doing the matters at hand (like formulating property quiz questions....o dear!).

Ok enough. Almost Australian Idol time...you can expect another rant on Monday probably, hee.
