Helllllllllllooo everyone!
Australian Idol Wrap
Glad to report that Australia developed some taste between last week and this week and voted off Rob. Even though he was pretty good this week, he was by far the worst singer (though not the worst performer. That title belongs to Shannon...he'd BETTER be the next to go, o, I wish they would institute anti-votes!). Also glad to report that I did my part and voted for Paulini...yes I feel slightly sad, but it could have been MY VOTE that saved her from the bottom two!! (Actually nah, I think she got major sympathy vote this week, cos her rendition of Survivor wasn't that great- breathless, like Dicko said, and cos of his fat comments...I tells ya millions of women who can identify with her around Australia voted for her because of that...maybe that was all part of the plan...)
They had some shots tonight of when the contestants went to a shopping centre in Liverpool (yeah I think that was it) to do a promotion for their single and there were heeeeeaaaps of people mobbing them (HEEEEAAAPS) and were commenting about how it was the biggest buzz, though they were somewhat bemused. On a much much much tinier scale, I remember when a few of us from church did a concert at Ravenswood (remember Luke?), and all these kids were crammed into their quad, screaming and going off- because we were playing there...and I remember turning around to one of the guys and saying "This is crazy!!". I mean it was a huge buzz....but really really weird. WEIRD! And that was just a hundred-odd schoolgirls. Aaaanywayz, it must be really weird for the Australian Idol people, cos only a few months ago they were just your average, normal, not famous, not recognised people. Whaddya know.
In other news, I managed to put down the beginnings of a nicely promising song today. The frustrating thing is knowing that I'll never in the next 50 years have anywhere to play them...or be able to share them with anyone on a remotely small-medium scale! The thing I like about this song is that it's evocative. Starts with a nice C major 7th chord...(had to fiddle around with voicings to get those 4 chords right, but I like them!) with lotsa space in between...and to me it just sounds and feels like Friday afternoon (so it's not surprising when the 1st line is "It's 5 o'clock on a Friday afternoon", hee). But it's really laid back...suffice to say I'm quite proud. Now to finish it....needs another one verse at least, and definitely some kind of bridge- I hate it when songs don't reach a climax!!
It's 5 o'clock on a Friday afternoon
I'm supposed to be someplace, I know
But I can't remember where
And the silence echos your footsteps
In the distance slamming doors
And I don't know when the next time I see you will be
It's raining again...
