Like a thief in the night

Everywhere, on any news site, it's tsunami! tsunami! tsunami!

An awful (in the truest sense of the word) natural disaster happened, and thousands upon thousands of people died. And yet, here I am- here are whole societies- here are whole NATIONS getting on with the rest of their lives. I am going to work. I'm having dinner with family. I'm shopping. I'm sleeping restfully at night in air-conditioned comfort.

Events that have characterised the last few years- September 11, this Tsunami- smack of the end times which the Bible talks about. I always thought that when the end times rolled around that it was gonna be this armageddon-esque atmosphere (a la the Left Behind books if you've read them- I've read 3 a long time ago) where there would be turmoil and tumult. But if we really are living in the end times- closer and closer to Jesus' return, then where's all the turmoil around me?

This is what I was pondering the other day - then I was reminded that 1 Thess 5:2 (I think it is- it was in my reading this morning!) says that "The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night". In other words, there ain't gonna necessarily be a big armageddon like occurrence to which we can point at and go "Argh! This is it!" which will shake us into wakefulness and out of complacency.

Just goes to show that we have to seize every opportunity to get the Gospel out. Who knows, there might not be a next time, or a next day. I pray that God would make me less complacent and really give me a heart for those who need Him.
