Old people

In my 4 and a bit weeks here living and interacting with old people (defined as people over 50) (oops, big boss partner just came in and a flurry of minimising windows ensued, heh), I have discovered that they generally possess the following characteristics. Can someone please remind me to never develop them!
  1. Repeat themselves ad nauseam: repeat themselves ad nauseam, repeat themselves ad nauseam, repeat themselves ad nauseam, repeat themselves ad nauseam, repeat themselves ad nauseam, repeat themselves ad nauseam...
  2. Ignore me when I'm talking!!: Well maybe this is a characteristic specific to those in the house where I'm staying, but I'll be talking to someone and they'll just ignore me! Or even worse, start a new conversation with someone else over the top of me! I think they're just deaf. I mean, it's not that I think what I have to say is particularly important- but at least PRETEND to listen! =p Though actually, it's not just me they ignore. They do it to each other- e.g. my mum will be talking to my aunt, and over the top, my grandma will just start talking about something TOTALLY different to my mum. This results in the next point...
  3. Easily confused: maybe it's because they have such poor listening skills. When they're going places, or looking for places, they don't read signs. They just stand there looking lost- or even worse- randomly gravitate to somewhere even if they don't know where they're going. E.g. one of my aunts has never taken the MRT from the station that's about a 10 minute walk from their house. So, one day, mum and I escorted her home on the MRT, and if you have been here, you'll know that the stations are HUGE with multiple exits. Anyway, my aunt had no idea where she was going, but insisted on walking ahead of us and gravitating without fail in the WRONG DIRECTION of where we were actually heading. USE YOUR EYES, PEOPLE!
  4. Indecisive: This should be up at number one. I can't stand it!! They're SO INDECISIVE!!! Not only that, but because they're Asian, no one ever wants to be the one to openly declare their preference for ANYTHING which results in MORE INDECISION, ARRRRGHHH!! (Sorry, I've had no one else to vent this to.) For example, say someone asks Dad where he wants to have lunch. Dad wants to go to place A for lunch. Instead of coming out and saying "I want to eat at A", Dad will go to Mum "Do you want to eat at A?", to which mum (who really doesn't want to eat at A) will not say "No", but will go to me "Do you want to eat at A??" when I really couldn't give a damn where we ate!

So on that note, I wish you all a merry belated Christmas everyone- hope it was special for you! Off to try and get some work to do!
