Hi everyone...
Firstly, merry belated Christmas (if such a thing exists, and I don't think it does) and a happy new year. I realise that this is a somewhat arbitrary date for the season's greetings, but hey, at least it's somewhere in the middle of all the celebrations.
Secondly, 3 thoughts (if I can remember them).
Thought 1
How can some people be so confident that people want to hear their opinions? There are 3 types of conversationalists in this world: Those who will brandish their opinions around like a sword, those who are willing to give and take (these ones make the socialising world go round I say!), and those who can't carry a conversation for the life of them because they don't give you anything to work with (you know the ones:
"So how are you?"
"Good."
"What have you been up to?"
"Nothin' much."
"What do you like doing?"
"Stuff." ..etc.)
The reason I came up with this is because one of my cousins from Melbourne that I haven't seen in YONKS (i.e. if I passed her on the street, I wouldn't have realised I was related to her) came to visit, and she was so opinionated about so much CRAP that it was just a tad overwhelming. When people talk so much, how are they so confident that everyone else wants to hear them expounding on [insert topic]?? Heh, the answer is probably that they're not confident in that sense, but it's just never occurred to them that others would possible NOT be interested [gasp!]. I reckon I need to be a bit more like that in class...who cares if what I have to say is bollocks, just say it anyway! (A fair few people have that attitude I gather- then again, they probably don't realise that what they're saying is bollocks. Hrmph.)
Thought 2
Bf's family are away at the moment, and the other night, mum and I were having a discussion (a heated one!) about whether I could stay over at his place.
For some context, I don't make a habit of it, but if it's more convenient to stay over at his place then I generally will (usually when something ends late on his side of the world and I don't want to drive home). Furthermore, it's not like we're sleeping in the same bed or room, and it's not like we're sleeping together (in that other sense =p).
Anyway, tomorrow's NYE celebrations are taking place on his side of the world, and I certainly don't want to drive home that late, but mum has this big hang up about it, the hang up being that if anyone finds out that I'm staying over at his house there will be a huge church-wide scandal and my reputation will be ruined forever.
What the?????
Like, I get her point...but surely that wouldn't happen. Who in the world would give a crap what I do? I'm fairly certain no one from church is looking at me. I don't even lead anymore....weird, so weird. How archaic. Anyway, if anyone can shed some perspective, then I'd be glad to head it. (Though you've all been so silent recently I'm wondering if anyone is still out there.)
Thought 3
HOW CRAP WAS WORLD IDOL??????????????????????????????????
It was excruciatingly Eurovision-esque. Especially that German guy. He was a bad bad choice to being with. I suppose the fact that most of the contestants were European didn't help either. O well. With the exceptions of Kelly, Guy, and possibly that last guy (the Norweigian one), everyone was ho-hum average. Even Guy could have been better- his performance was so low key (he SO should have done Climb Every Mountain...he would have blown them away. As it stands he was only mildly impressive- though that was enough to be outstanding in this field!). And what was the deal with Will Young? He was crap! The MOST entertaining part of the show was the Polish judge...pleh. And the hosts! How awful were they???
Actually, that brings me to Love Actually which I saw on Sunday night (those 2 hosts have a cameo in it). It was lovely! I left with a big smile on my face- even though it was quite a typical romantic comedy (well it never purported to be anything else) it was so well done...loved it! Go see it, and leave your cynical boots at the door!
Ok, gonna get myself something to eat...
ciao! xxoo
