Perspective
News of the explosions in London just broke about half an hour ago. Although smaller in scale, it reminds me of September 11...but it hits just as hard because, this time last year, I was there. I know where they are talking about. I've been there.
Just goes to show...life is so so fragile. We're here one day...the next? Anything could happen. It's very sobering. Sometimes I can't help thinking, in the light of all these situations- poverty in Africa, people dieing at the hands of terrorist attack- what right do I have to be sitting around plotting my career path? Watching pointless television? Arranging lunch dates? Cheering on a football team? It's all so trivial.
I once heard a message on this very topic. The speaker said something like "What are the 3 things in this world that will last all of eternity?"
God.
God's word.
People's souls.
His challenge was that we should invest our lives in the things that will last for all eternity.
And now I remember the message...I wonder anew what the heck I am investing my life in....and whether or not it's worth it.
My heart goes out to everyone affected by the situation. I can't imagine what they are going through. I pray that God would comfort them.
